PLASTICITY OF AURICLES - OTOPLASTICITY

Otoplasticity means the intervention on auricles – an external ear. As it is known people address to the cosmetic/plastic surgeon because of dissatisfaction with the appearance – that the person starts to realize at mature age. Unlike it due to otoplasticity people address at earlier age – 10 - 12 years. An explanation to it is sneers of coevals and schoolmates concerning the form of auricles – lop-eared, deformation and other.

INDICATIONS AND CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Otoplasticity is little-hurt, that is why there are no serious contra-indications except for age – not earlier than 10 – 12 years and diseases of the general organism when operative intervention are undesirable. We consider as the basic indication a wish of the patient. Sometimes the reason is connected more with desire of parents, instead of the child, but we are against it.

TECHNICS OF OPERATION PERFORMANCE AND REHABILITATION

Intervention on an auricle is out-patient procedure and is performed under local anesthesia. Operation takes nearly 30 – 40 minutes. Seam is located on a back surface of the auricle and it is practically invisible in the future. The patient will have to carry forehead decorative bandage for 7 – 8 days. By this term the only seam is removed and hypostases and cyanosis of auricles disappear practically completely.
